Great for beginners!!

My friend and I took this sushi making class on the first day of our trip to Tokyo. Neither of us had any experience with sushi making or cooking Japanese cuisine. The instructor was incredibly helpful and engaging! We learned many traditional techniques for preparing sushi rice, forming nigiri and hand rolls, and cooking Japanese omelets. The amazing photo ops came as a bonus 🙂 Make sure to come hungry as the food is super delicious and filling! We were able to take home copies of the recipes we made so that we can create the same dishes at home. We also added the Matcha experience which was the perfect ending to the class.

I cannot recommend this class enough!! I would recommend this class to any of my friends traveling to Tokyo, no matter their experience level!

Thank you for your wonderful review. It was really good for us to spend the same time with you. I hope the recipes will be helpful when you cook at home. Please enjoy cooking!

Best excursion in Japan!

Come hungry, you’ll have lots to eat!

I had an amazing time learning how to make tamagoyaki, sesame salad, miso soup, and sushi with Toshie and Hiroshi-San. Not only was the food delicious, but I feel that I learned something about Japanese culture and cooking that I can take back home with me and share with my family and friends. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in Japanese cooking, regardless of skills (totally beginner friendly). I was very intimidated about making tamagoyaki but the instructor was so helpful that I actually make a very good omelet!

I would recommend adding on the matcha making part of the course—I am looking forward to making matcha in the future at home! This course was the best start to my trip in Tokyo and is very family friendly. I strongly recommend this class and hope I’ll be back in Japan to do it again!

Thank you for joining our sushi making class. We're very glad to know you enjoyed the class and bought a square pan, a mortar and pestle after the class. Please try the recipes at home. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Fun Making Sushi

My daughter and I really enjoyed Toshie's Sushi Making class. We got started promptly and she kept us busy at a good pace for the full two-and-a-half hours, including a bit on enjoying matcha. Neither of us speak Japanese, but Toshie's English is fully serviceable, so no worries there. She prepared for us a nice binder for the four printed recipes she walked us through, including maki, negiri, tamago, miso soup, and spinach with sesame. We got very hands-on with everything, and she's an excellent teacher. As much as I enjoyed the preparation, I enjoyed eating everything even more. It was all delicious and we left so full that we skipped dinner that evening! Thank you, Toshie, and good luck!

Thank you very much for joining our class. We are glad to know you enjoyed making sushi and other cuisines. I think you could enjoy Japanese culture through making sushi. We hope your trip in Japan will be a wonderful one and this sushi experience will be one of the highlights of your trip.

Crispy tempura!

Tempura is one of my favourite dishes, but cooking it myself wasn’t possible for me until today! Under Toshie's careful guidance, I not only learned how to make tempura, but also how to make udon myself. We made our own dough, then put it on the floor and kneaded with our feet. It was a lot of fun! For anyone going to Japan, I highly recommend Toshie’s cooking classes!

Thank you for joining the tempura class. Making beautiful tempura is difficult for even Japanese people, but your tempuras looked really beautiful! Please cook tempura at home!

A Fun Way To Learn A New Cuisine

After living in Japan for more than seven years, I finally had my first Japanese cooking class this past Sunday. It was long overdue, and the apprehensions that had kept me from doing it earlier turned out to be completely unfounded. There are no innate special talents or skills required, and if your Japanese is bad like mine you should know that the teacher is fluent in English. It was a really fun and interesting afternoon.

For the record, each of the four students in my class made (and then ate!) six nigirizushi ("standard sushi") and two rolls, as well as a Japanese omelet, a sesame spinach side dish, and a basic miso soup. It was a lot of fun and some great food at a very reasonable cost.

Check it out!
